Last summer, my family (minus the sister, who was busy) traveled to Iceland. The weather was supposed to be at it's mildest in the summer months, so I had high hopes of getting a lot of incredible landscape photos. Unfortunately, of the twelve days that we had there, ten were either rainy or completely overcast. In a wild and open country like Iceland, such weather made photography fairly difficult. Several location and route changes had to be made, and I wasn't able to capture some of the images that I had hoped to.
Fortunately, the landscapes around Iceland are just that awesome, so I removed the colour from some of my photos. This allowed the grey and dreary conditions to give those scenes a moodier and more dramatic feel, instead of feeling cold and soggy (which was how I was feeling for most of the trip).
Here are a selection of some of my favourite black and white images from the trip. Let me know what you think :)
As you can see, landscapes, especially from a place as wonderful as Iceland, can look good in black and white. While I do have some nice coloured images from the trip, a lack of these black and white shots would have made the trip a much more disappointing one.
In any case, I do hope to do a return trip to Iceland some day, in hopes of better weather and more photographic opportunities.
