Salzburg was our first proper sightseeing stop in Austria (Our first actual stop was where our hotel was located, Wels). The day started out cold and wet due to incessant overnight rain, and we spent the first half of the day visiting several of the city's popular attractions. We started out at the Mirabell Gardens, then headed across the Salzach River to visit the Salzburg Cathedral, Mozart's Birthplace, and St Peter's Abby and Cemetery.
The afternoon was allocated as free time, which I used to wander around the streets of Salzburg's Old Town while the others went shopping. The weather had cleared up somewhat, so it became fairly pleasant.
I also decided to head up to Hohensalzburg Fortress to learn more about the area's history, as well as for the views of the city that I was certain that I would get. There are two ways to get up to the fortress - by walking up, or via the funicular. I managed to walk only halfway up before deciding to take the ride (Oops).
Overall, it was a day well spent (If a little wet to start).
