Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, was the first stop on our four country trip in Eastern Europe. As we were spending only a single day in the city, we headed directly from the airport into the historic section of the city to explore.
Our first stop in the city was a stroll through part of the historic district of Prague to the Old Town Square, where we also stopped for lunch. We passed by several of the city's trams, which were reminiscent of the country's communist era history (As many of them were produced during that time).
After lunch, we headed back across the River Vltava and spent the afternoon walking the grounds of Prague Castle. The castle comprised of a large complex of historic buildings, including several that housed the office of the Czech President. Amongst the places that we visited within the complex was the St. Vitus Cathedral and Golden Lane.
The best part of the visit however, were the awesome panoramic views of the city that could be seen from part of the castle compound's outer walls:
After the castle, we made our (fairly long) way down the hill to our final stop at the historic Charles Bridge, which provided great views of the river and the Old Town.
Over all, it was a day well spent seeing the main sights of Prague, albeit a fairly tiring one (Due to the lack of sleep from flying and long walks getting from place to place).
